Claim 1 is directed to an assembly for forming a document, which we interpret as directed to an apparatus, i.e. a structure which can be termed a machine or manufacture under 35 U.S.C. § 101. Thus, claim 1 is a structural claim and as such must be distinguished from the prior art based on structure. “[I]t is the patentability of the product claimed and not of the recited process steps which must be established.” In re Brown, 459 F.2d 531, 535 (CCPA 1972).

Claim 13 recites "a forwarding module, a storage module, and a filtering module." "'Module' is a well-known nonce word that can operate as a substitute for 'means' in the context of [§ 112(f).]" Williamson v. Citrix Online, LLC, 792 F.3d 1339, 1350 (Fed. Cir. 2015) (en banc). The absence of adequate structure corresponding to limitations interpreted under § 112(f) renders those limitations indefinite under § 1 12(b). Id. at 1351—52. We leave to the Examiner to determine whether the modules in claim 13 should be interpreted under § 112(f) and, if so, determine whether the corresponding structure is disclosed adequately. See MPEP § 2181 (I) (9th ed. Rev. 7, Mar. 2014) (providing guidelines to examiners for determining whether a claim limitation invokes § 112(f) and instructing that "module" may invoke § 112(f))

A rejection must be set forth in sufficiently articulate and informative manner as to meet the notice requirement of § 132, such as by identifying where or how each limitation of the rejected claims is met by the prior art references. In re Jung, 637 F.3d 1356, 1363 (Fed. Cir. 2011); see also 37 C.F.R. § l . 104(c)(2) ("When a reference is complex or shows or describes inventions other than that claimed by the applicant, the particular part relied on must be designated as nearly as practicable. The pertinence of each reference, if not apparent, must be clearly explained and each rejected claim specified."), Gechter v. Davidson, 116 F.3d 1454, 1460 (Fed. Cir. 1997) (PTO must create a record that includes "specific fact findings for each contested limitation and satisfactory explanations for such findings."). It is neither our place, nor Appellant's burden, to speculate as to the basis for rejecting claims. In re Stepan, 660 F. 3d 1341, 1345 (Fed. Cir. 2011) (It is the PTO's obligation to provide prior notice to the applicant of all matters of fact and law asserted prior to an appeal hearing before the Board.).

Appellant has not provided on this record a sufficient basis for concluding that the generic scope of protection sought by claim I is reasonably commensurate with the showing of alleged unexpected results. See In re Greenfield, 571 F.2d 1185, 1189 (CCPA 1978) (obviousness rejection affirmed because evidence establishing that one (or a small number of) species gives unexpected results is inadequate proof); In re Harris, 409 F.3d  1339, 1344 (Fed. Cir. 2005) ("Even assuming that the results were unexpected, Harris needed to show results covering the scope of the claimed range. Alternatively Harris needed to narrow the claims.").

In re Mouttet, 686 F.3d 1322, 1333—1334 (Fed. Cir. 2012) (explaining that mere disclosure of alternative design does not teach away and an "inferior combination" is not inapt for obviousness purposes merely because better alternatives exist in prior art).
