We view the use of “or” in this passage—similar to the use of “i.e.”—as clearly setting forth a definition of the term “off-board,” as well as expressing an intent to explain the use of that term. Given their ordinary and customary meaning as understood by a person of ordinary skill in the art when
read in the context of the specification and prosecution history. There are only two exceptions to this general

Cir. 2002)). “It is not enough for a patentee to simply disclose a single embodiment or use a word in the same manner in all embodiments, the patentee must ‘clearly express an intent’ to redefine the term.” Id. We find such “configured to” language merely represents a statement of intended use of the RFID readers comprised in the network, which does not limit the claim. Additionally, we find the recited “to be deployed” language merely represents a statement of intended use of the equipment, which does not limit the claim (Claim 1). Particularly, an intended use will not limit the scope of the claim because it merely defines a context in which the invention operates. Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. v. Schering-Plough Corp., 320 F.3d 1339, 1345 (Fed. Cir. 2003). Thus, we give claim 1 its broadest reasonable interpretation as merely requiring RFID readers capable of reading tag identifiers relating to equipment capable of being deployed in a group of fixed locations.

We are also not apprised of Examiner error by Appellant’s argument that the Specification defines “driveably connected” to mean “directly connected.” Our reviewing court has instructed that “[t]o act as its own lexicographer, a patentee must clearly set forth a definition of the disputed claim term other than its plain and ordinary meaning.” Thorner v. Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC, 669 F.3d 1362, 1365-66 (Fed. Cir. 2012) (citations and quotations omitted). Our reviewing court has rejected the proposition that, “regardless of how broad, a disclosure of a chemical genus renders obvious any species that happens to fall within it.” In re Jones, 958 F.2d 347, 350 (Fed. Cir. 1992). In Lemin, cited by the majority, the court explained that :

To overcome a prima facie case of obviousness by showing secondary considerations of unexpected results, Appellants must first establish a nexus between the claimed invention and the allegedly unexpected results. Therefore, Appellant attempts to limit the ordinary claim term “message” to exclude packets or other known message formats.
