Appellants characterize their argument as being that Gysling and Small teach away from the proposed combination. (App. Br. 5.) The substance of Appellants’ argument, however, is directed to the question of whether a person of ordinary skill in the art would have had a reasonable expectation that the teachings of the two references could be combined successfully. Such an expectation is a necessary part of a prima facie case of obviousness. In re Vaeck, 947 F.2d 488, 493 (Fed. Cir. 1991).
